The random.
- Napping is good for business - research tells us so. (I've been doing lots of hands-on research on the subject.) The authors of The Way We're Working Isn't Working predict that napping is going to be the next big thing. They also report that Google's famous sleep pods are hardly ever used. The idea that it's okay to nap on the job is a tough sell. Maybe it'll be a little easier after this article in Inc., profiling companies that do encourage napping, and who's bosses lead by example. (via Rebecca Prien)
- Napping is definitely an option on our Day of Secret Play. You've got the whole day to love up your project -- a disco nap can only make it better. Add that to a little Dance of Shiva in the morning and you know you're project will thank you. A Day of Secret Play is FREE to Society members and it's next Saturday! Curious?
- And speaking of the Society of the Secret Play Date, I keep forgetting to let you know - the price goes up after August 27 for new members, so if you've been thinking about joining, now's the time. Get all the details here.
- Young jazz audiences are much different from their older counterparts. So says a new study from the Jazz Audience Initiative. Apparently they are more interested in performing themselves, have much more eclectic musical taste than their elders, and 'have an especially strong affinity for informal settings.' I wonder if that holds true for the younger classical audience, too. (via Jamie Katz)
- Email newsletters = boring. I'd much rather be on Lisa's Rabbit Rabbit list, if only for the cute bunny faces.
- Summer's nearly over, but the screen doors on my Summer House are still open. Come on in, and see what we're talking about. It's free.
- The Shiva Nata app is here! Excitement! It's a companion to the Dance of Shiva DVD* for levels one through three (though you don't have to have the DVD, just a familiarity with the positions) and features a stylized, animated Havi. You can slow the cues or speed them up for extra brain-scrambling. Take a look in the iTunes store (and write a review if you download it!).
- Is it possible to be quiet about your work and still succeed? (via Quiet: The Power of Introverts)
- Sad news: the American Folk Art Museum may fold. I haven't been there in years (I guess I'm part of the problem), but I have great memories of seeing Henry Darger's work for the first time there. A curator happened to be on hand to tell us all about the work and how it was discovered by the artist's landlord's Nathan and Kiyoko Lerner. I hope they find a way to resolve their financial problems and keep the collection in New York.
- I love how Andrea went through the entire spectrum of her Rainbow-licious Creative Healing Circle this past week on her blog. What better way to show us what the course is all about?
