Why not Wednesday?

Wondering, hmmm, why not do that thing today?

See this post to find out what I'm talking about.

A step forward.

On Wednesday last, my why-not was about expanding my concept of self-care

I already get that I need rest after frenzied activity (like scheduling a Pause this week - yay!), that yoga makes my day much, much better -- I may not always be able to put it into practice, but I get it.

No, this why-not was about expanding it to include stuff that's unpleasant (or scary) but necessary in the long run.

It's like taking care of Way-Future Me.

It's not a shift in understanding that can take place in one Wednesday, but it's a first step.

In practical terms, my why-not was about setting up three medical appointments -- and I did!

In fact, two of the three are getting done in the same appointment this very week.

I'm not excited about going, but I'm going, and that's an improvement.

So a small why-not today is going to be:

Making one appointment of two more that need scheduling. A scary one, but it's seeming more doable than the other.

A bigger why-not is:

Take care of the recording of yesterday's free class, 'Meet Your Project.' (Psst: if you missed it, you can still sign up for free to get the recording when it's ready. Sign up here.)

It's not so much the editing that I resist when I do these recordings. If the fixes seem beyond me, I work with a wonderful editor who can make everything better.

No, it's that I have to listen to the whole thing.

I don't cringe nearly as much when I hear my own voice, but it's not fun, either. And I really have to listen to the whole thing to find out if there are any big problems.

At the same time, I want to make it available as soon as possible to the people who signed up. That means finding out now if I need to hand it over to someone more skilled than me.

So.

Listen to the recording.

If it's within my limited skill set, edit it.

If not, send it to the expert and find out how soon I can get it to the fabulous people who signed up.

Why Not Wednesday?

In the spirit of Why Not Now?, I'm asking myself about the little things, which generally lead to big things, and asking, why not do them now?

Today, Wednesday?

This is not about just doing it already! or plowing through or getting my ass in gear.

No.

It's about being curious about those things.

Having a loving wondering why.

As in, huh. I'm not doing that thing I want to be doing, that one little thing.

I wonder what's going on with that?

Maybe I don't need a whole free hour to devote to it.

Maybe all those preparatory steps aren't actually needed after all.

Maybe there's no reason not to do it.

Or maybe it doesn't need doing at all, and I can cross it off my list.

Even if it doesn't get done, I'll have more information.

Join me?

Is there some little thing you could wonder about, and maybe even do today?

P.S. Total permission to have a Why Not Thursday or Friday or Saturday, if you're not reading this on Wednesday.

Reminder!

The next session of 'Why Not Now?' starts soon -- March 12 -- I can't wait! -- and it's filling up. If you're curious, take a look -- all the 2012 sessions are open for registration now (and you can still get the early-bird price for April through November).

I think I'm adopting the medical appointments theme... I'm going to schedule two appointments that I have been putting off, so I don't run out of contacts and have no appointment like last year.

And by the way - you have a lovely voice.

Aww, thanks, Sarah!

Definitely not good to run out of contacts.

As far as my own appointment-makery goes, I called, left a message, and they haven't gotten back to me. Bleh. I wanted to cross that off my list!

I did, however, listen to that 'Meet Your Project' audio and expect to have it ready and available soon.
